Chiropractic

Chiropractic
Serendipity Photography

Chiropractic looks at diagnosing, treating and preventing problems with the joints, muscles and nerves. Problems can arise for many different reasons, ranging from trauma to poor posture.
Chiropractic not only deals with injuries, aches and pains but also prevention of problems you may have had in the past and helping you stay healthy, active and performing well.

A short list of problems that Chiropractic can help with include:
  • Neck pain
  • Mid-back (thoracic) pain
  • Low back pain
  • Headaches
  • Whiplash associated disorders
  • Shoulder pain
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Hip and knee pain
  • Plantar fascitis
  • Minor sports injuries
Within chiropractic many different techniques are used, our new chiropractor Camilla mainly uses Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT), Diversified and Dry needling techniques amongst others in order for her to give you the best treatment possible. All treatment is tailored to your individual needs and is suitable for people of all ages.

SOT is a gentle technique perfect for everyone including babies, children and pregnant women. It looks at the relationship between the sacrum (base of spine) and occiput (base of skull) and then goes from there, hence the name.

Dry needling can be used anywhere on the body, it is used to release muscle tension and is very effective. It can also be used where there is swelling and tenderness in areas that may have suffered from a recent sports injury.

A visit to the chiropractor isn't just about getting the joints moving properly, releasing off muscles and restoring function to the nervous system. Things like lifestyle and diet are also very important things to consider when helping your body to heal, function maximally and improve performance.

If you are not fuelling your body with the right foods then you can't expect healing or day to day functioning to be at its best. Similarly, exercise is also an important factor to consider, discussing this is all part of your treatment plan. Whether it be specific strengthening exercises for the problematic area, or cardiovascular exercise, activity keeps our joints, muscles, nerves and body as a whole happy and healthy.

Chiropractic is a holistic approach to your health, concerned with all areas in order to get the best results.

Chiropractic during Pregnancy

Chiropractic during Pregnancy - How can it help you:

Is chiropractic safe if I'm pregnant? - A frequently asked question by many patients.
The answer is YES! Treatment during all phases of pregnancy is 100% safe. We have to adapt the way we do some techniques, particularly in the later stages but it is still a very effective treatment.

During pregnancy the female body undergoes many different changes, this affects the way you feel, move and adapt to things.

Firstly, ligaments become more lax in order to accommodate changes in shape and in preparation for the pelvis to allow birth/delivery to occur. This means that joints, muscles and nerves can all become injured more easily. A knock that in a non-pregnant individual would cause very little or no problems could have a greater effect on the pregnant individual. In all respects the body becomes more sensitive to all stimuli.

As you progress through a pregnancy you gain more weight, especially in the abdominal area. This firstly means that the body's centre of gravity shifts forward, resulting in certain areas being put under more stress and strain than they are used to. Areas particularly affected by this are the thoracic spine (mid-back), the lower back, pelvis and pubic symphysis.

Chiropractic can help to alleviate the pains and discomfort caused by these stresses. Pubic symphsis dysfunction is something that tends to affect ladies later on in their pregnancy as the baby increases in size and moves further down into the pelvis, in preparation for birth. Depending on how the baby is lying, can affect or stress one side of the pubic symphysis more than the other leading to misalignment of the joint, something chiropractic can treat.

As ligaments become more lax so do the joints, the pelvic joints are no exception. A slight rotation in the pelvis can decrease the diameter of the pelvic outlet significantly, during delivery is not going to make things any easier. Making sure the pelvis is correctly aligned at all stages of pregnancy, up until the last few days will make the delivery mechanically as easy as possible. Prior to this keeping the pelvis in the most neutral position allows your baby to lie in the most comfortable and viable position.

Chiropractic during pregnancy has the same effects as in the non-pregnant patient in terms of restoring function, decreasing pain and improving health. There are some additional techniques that can be very effective during pregnancy, which is why regular treatment throughout is healthy and beneficial to not only you (mum-to-be) but also your baby.

Due to the laxity of joints and ligaments, alongside your increased sensitivity treatment is gentle, and as always within your tolerance.

So whether you are experiencing any pain during your pregnancy, or you would like to make sure that you and your baby stay comfortable, happy and healthy, think chiropractic.

How is it different from a normal massage:

Pregnancy massage is only recommended in the 2nd and 3rd trimester. It is a gentler massage of a medium pressure, compared to deep tissue, for safety reasons and certain areas need to be avoided altogether. The massage is received with the client in a relaxed side lying position, supported with pillows for maximum comfort. The treatment room has soft music playing with low lighting to increase the tranquillity of the massage.

Ange is currently offering a £10 discount on 1 hour pregnancy massages for the Month of May 2012, normally £55 per hour. Call Well4ever on 0208 789 4362 and quote ange04 to receive this offer. Ange is also offering a free 15 minute aromatherapy consultation

Counselling at Well4ever in Putney

well4ever
What is counselling?

Counselling is a professional relationship between a therapist and a client. The two terms Counselling and Psychotherapy are often used interchangeably and may lead to some confusion.

Counselling is usually short term and focused upon a particular issue that is causing undue internal conflict.
Psychotherapy is more long term in nature, and will typically involve a client’s formative years.

Therapy provides the client with the opportunity to explore their thoughts and feelings in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.  A feeling of being understood is essential for a person to resolve conflicts that are interrupting their lives.

Most people, at some stage in their lives, feel overwhelmed by circumstances that can lead to a sense of helplessness and isolation. Therapy can be of assistance to the client through guidance or by offering the safety to allow them to explore their thoughts and feelings, gain clarity regarding their difficulties, and take steps towards resolving their problems as insurmountable as they might seem.

If you'd like to have a chat to discuss how counselling can help you please call us at well4ever on 02087894362

we offer an initial assessment at a discounted price of £25, after that each session is £45 for 50 minutes appointments.

Evelyne Riddle, Counsellor at Well4ever

Evelyne
Hi everyone,

My name is Evelyne Riddle, and I am a qualified counsellor offering therapy in English and French at Well4ever Clinic in Putney and also in Wimbledon. I specialise in bereavement, depression, stress and anxiety and I incorporate thoughts and principles of Buddhist philosophy to my practice. I view my role as your companion on your path towards attaining inner peace.

Prior to my arrival to the United Kingdom in 2007, I spent 25 years working in the field of education and counselling in International Schools in Egypt, the United States (California and Washington, DC) and Italy. Living and working in different countries has given me the opportunity of being exposed to a wide range of cultures and beliefs and has enabled me to be open to, value and respect traditions other than my own.

My core beliefs are grounded in humanistic therapy, although my overall approach is integrative which means that I recognise that each of us is unique and so I try to adapt to what works best for you.  I found in my three years of practice in the United Kingdom that, by giving me the privilege of sharing their life experiences with me, my clients continue to be my best teachers.  I offer both short-term and long-term therapy based on your goals and needs.

I offer an initial assessment at a discounted price of £25, after that each session is £45 for 50 minutes appointments.

If you'd like to have a chat to discuss how counselling can help you please call or email me,
